In Microsoft Teams Assignments, a weekly assignment summary email can be sent automatically to parents and guardians of students. This is an easy way to inform and engage parents in their child’s homework, as the digest gives them an overview of what assignments have been completed and which are yet to be handed in.
If you don’t yet have parents/guardians in Microsoft School Data Sync, Cloud Design Box can sync this data for you, get in touch via our website.
The weekly summaries are distributed over the weekend and display all the subjects where homework has been set.
As you can see from this example, this student has an English Language reading assignment that is yet to be handed in and two German assignments – one that is complete and one that needs to be finished.
Currently, the email shows the due date and hand-in status of each assignment, but not the grades for turned-in assignments.
At the bottom, there is a “Coming up” section, which displays assignment deadlines that are approaching.
In this short guide, we show you how to turn on and off these weekly assignment summary emails per class.

How to turn on and off weekly assignment summaries for parents/guardians.
- Head to Teams Assignments.
- Select the gear icon on the right-hand side to open Assignment Settings.
- Scroll down to the Parent/guardian email section. There is an option to “Send a weekly email about assignments to parents and guardians” that you can toggle on/off.
- To turn off emails, switch it to No.
- To turn on emails, switch it to Yes.
Note: If you do turn off the weekly email notification, this turns it off for the whole class. Unfortunately, it cannot be turned on/off for individual students.
If you come into the Assignment Settings and this option isn’t there, it needs to be activated by your local IT administrator.
